The term facelift encompasses any procedure or often a combination of procedures that enhances the overall contour of the face and neck. Facelifts are one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures in the world and remains the gold standard for rejuvenation of the aging face.
Dr. Marshak’s goal in facelift surgery is that no one will know that the patient had surgery. This involves meticulous planning and careful suturing. Full facelifts address the forehead, the cheeks and jowls, and the neck. However, in some patients, a partial facelift is all that is required to address their needs.
With time, gravity affects the face, producing changes on the skin, muscles and connective tissues, causing them to sag. In addition to the sagging skin, we tend to lose facial volume which creates a “deflated” or “sunken” appearance to the face particularly around the eyes, mouth and cheekbones.
Although this progression is a natural part of aging, it has become increasingly difficult to accept since people are feeling much younger and energized nowadays with the advent of healthier lifestyles, cleaner diets, exercise and improved medical care. Competition in the job market also motivates many men and women to do all they can in order to appear younger and more vibrant.

Dr. Marshak’s facelifts are tailored to each individual client. Your desired outcomes and specific needs will be determined after a thorough facial analysis and examination; evaluating your goals, desires, facial structure and specific pattern of aging. A full facelift will address the forehead, the cheeks and jowls, and the neck. However, in some patients, a partial facelift is all that is required to address their needs.
There are many different techniques surgeons use to perform a facelift, and advancements in this procedure have evolved significantly over the last decade. Facelifts have graduated from simply pulling up the skin, which often resulted in an unnatural appearance, to repositioning the deeper structures and muscles of the face in a way that produces a more youthful, natural appearance. Afterwards, the skin is simply draped over the underlying structures without any tension or stretched appearance. This gives a more natural, longer lasting result and not the “plastic” look most want to avoid. Incisions are hidden typically within the hair and creases around and inside the ear. Dr. Marshak performs his procedures with meticulous attention to every detail in order to give his patient beautiful, natural appearing results.
Recovery varies among patients depending on multiple factors including age, health, genetics and previous surgery. Heavy physical activity and sports are not recommended initially, however, normal activity (walking, shopping) is permitted. There are usually no bandages and showering is usually permitted the day after surgery.
It is common for patients to develop bruising and swelling most of the swelling goes away in two to three weeks, but some swelling can last for a longer period of time as every patient heals at different rates depending on age and skin type. Dr. Marshak will personally see you frequently in the post-operative period to monitor your healing and ensure you are on course.
The goal of Dr. Marshak’s facelifts are to produce a more youthful, vibrant appearance while enhancing harmony among all of one’s facial features. The results of a properly performed facelift are long lasting and should create a natural, sculpted contour of the face and jawline for years to come.
